Ipsita Roy is Professor of Biomaterials at the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering at the University of Sheffield, and an active member of the Insigneo Institute Research Board. She is also a Visiting Professor at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London.
Ipsita has published over 100 papers in high-impact journals and presented her work at numerous international conferences. Her research has been extensively funded by the EPSRC, BHF, Innovate UK, and the EU. It is centred on natural polymers of bacterial origin, specifically Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs). Her group is a leader in the field, focusing on environmentally friendly and medical applications – including tissue engineering, drug delivery systems and medical device development. Patent applications related to this work have been filed and are in the PCT phase.
