We provide staged financial support matched to your project’s development needs, from market validation through to proof of concept.
Translating primary research into MedTech products requires different types of support at different stages. Market research and validation needs different resources than technical development. Proof of concept projects face different challenges than earlier feasibility studies. Our staged funding approach recognises these distinctions, providing appropriate support as your innovation matures.
Choose the package that matches your project's current development stage.
Three-stage system supporting projects from market validation through to proof of concept – enter at the most appropriate level, following completion of your underpinning research. Applications assessed by expert panel, decisions within 8 weeks.

Researchers at UK universities are eligible to apply, as well as those based in NHS bodies approved for UKRI funding https://www.ukri.org/publications/organisation-eligibility/research-organisations-eligible-for-ukri-funding/. We welcome applications from early career researchers and postdocs if part of an applicant team which includes at least one member with an academic contract (lecturer level or above). Projects must focus on medical technology translation with clear pathways to clinical implementation. Commercial organisations cannot apply as lead applicants but can participate as project partners.
Eligible costs include researcher costs, consumables and certain equipment costs, participant expenses for studies etc. We fund activity directly supporting project objectives. Detailed cost guidance is provided within the application pack.
We will be holding 3 impact funding calls during 2026. Round 5 is open now, with a deadline of 17 April. There will be further rounds during the summer and autumn.
All applicants are required to complete a short Intention to Submit form by 16 March, to streamline the application review process and support early engagement. You’ll receive an application reference number in response to your completed Intention to Submit form. This enables you to submit your full application by 5pm on 17 April. Our expert panel reviews applications and provides detailed feedback. Decisions are usually communicated within around 8 weeks of the application deadline.
Previous or concurrent funding doesn’t automatically exclude your project. Each application is assessed on its own merits. If you’ve received other support, clearly explain how Yorkshire MedTech funding would add value and advance your project beyond existing achievements. Many successful applicants will leverage multiple funding sources to accelerate development.
