Paul Hatton

Paul Hatton is Professor of Biomaterials Science in the School of Clinical Dentistry at the University of Sheffield and is the Academic Lead driving the formation of the South Yorkshire Academic Health Partnership.  Paul served as Director for Research and Innovation in the Faculty of Health at the University of Sheffield from 2022 – 2026, and is an active member of the Insigneo Institute Advisory Group.

Paul is one of Europe’s leading bioengineers with over 160 peer reviewed publications and supervision of 45 successful PhD students.  Paul has led or partnered on UK and European projects valued at over £25million.  His interdisciplinary research group work on innovative and emerging healthcare and manufacturing technologies to improve the repair and regeneration of human musculoskeletal and dental tissues.

Paul is well known for his passionate support of academic-industrial collaboration and knowledge exchange to drive economic growth and benefit society.  This is exemplified by his commitment to the Yorkshire MedTech project, maximising opportunities for real-world impact from university research in medical technologies in partnership with Yorkshire manufacturing businesses.
